Five Ways To Make Your Parish Better From “Our Sunday Visitor” Think of yourself as part of your parish family. Family members don’t always agree, but they do feel a strong commitment to the family. Use your gifts and talents for the good of the parish. If you’re a singer, public speaker, musician or just a friendly, helpful person, get involved as a lector, usher, greeter, extraordinary minister of Holy Communion or part of the parish music ministry. Attend parish events. Whether it’s a mission, a lecture or a lawn fete, it’s important to support the spiritual, educational and social parts of parish life. Invite family members and friends to join you! Support you parish financially. Parishes need your help with operational expenses, energy costs, supplies and maintenance. Be generous. Pray. Keep you pastor, the parish staff and the parishioners in your daily prayers. Pray also for the return of Catholics who have strayed from practice of their faith. A Principle and Value of the Church’s Social Doctrine The Way of Love - the highest and universal criterion of the whole of social ethics. It is from the inner wellspring of love that the values of truth, freedom and justice are born. No legislation, no system of rules or negotiations will ever succeed in persuading men and peoples to live in unity, brotherhood and peace; no line of reasoning will ever be able to surpass the appeal of love. Choose Life “The Dutch have decided that killing is an acceptable answer to human suffering. While it started with just a few, that is the people who supposedly were at the end of life; it very quickly became the many, i.e. people with disabilities or those who wanted to die.” Wesley J. Smith, “The Southern Cross” St. Mary’s and St. Joan’s Cares… “Violence against women, inside or outside the home, is NEVER justified. Violence in any form – physical, sexual, psychological or verbal – is sinful; often it is a crime as well. We have called for a moral revolution to replace a culture of violence. We acknowledge that violence has many forms, many causes, and many victims, men as well as women.” USCCB statement entitled “When I call for help”New York State Adult Domestic Violence Hotline 1-800-942-6906 New York State Elder Abuse Hotline 1-800-342-9871 New York State Child Abuse Hotline 1-800-342-3720 Prevention Information Resource Center 1-800-342-7472 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
