THE HAMILTON-AREA VETERANS MEMORIAL The men and women of Hamilton's American Legion Post 375 have been granted permission by the Hamilton Board of Trustees to design and construct a veterans' memorial in a plaza situated between the Hamilton Village Office and the Hamilton Public Library. This memorial shall be dedicated to the memory of all the men and women who have worn the military uniforms of our Nation and who have called southeast Madison County a home and/or have relatives who have lived here. Many of these neighbors are veterans of this Nation=s conflicts from the Revolutionary War through the current conflict in Iraq, men and women who served gallantly as true patriots and at the risk of their own lives in order to preserve and protect freedom and democracy in the United States and throughout the world. The plaza will be paved with bricks carved with the names of veterans donated by their families. Six granite benches, each dedicated to a branch of the military services, will face a center stele of black granite flecked with gray. The stele will support a black granite sphere carved to represent the globe and flecked with gold inclusions. Please help us achieve our goal of providing the funds to construct and maintain this memorial through the loving generosity of people with ties to our community without seeking contributions from the state or federal government.
