Hamilton Book and Movie Club announces Summer 2009 season

 

Hamilton, N.Y. – Colgate Bookstore and the Hamilton Theatre announce the Summer 2009 season of the Hamilton Book & Movie Club, beginning on Thursday, July 30 at 5:30 p.m. with books and movies based on autobiographies, memoirs and pieces of history.  For more information about this season’s selections or to join the club, please visit www.colgatebookstore.com/bookmovie/.

The selected books/movies for the Summer 2009 (July – September) season are as follows:
July 30  – Catch Me if You Can – This autobiography of con-man Frank Abagnale, Jr. is the basis of the 2002 Steven Spielberg film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken and Amy Adams

August 27 Man on Wire – This memoir by Philippe Petit chronicling his 1974 tightrope walk between the Twin Towers, forms the basis for the 2008 Academy-Award Winning documentary by James Marsh.

September 24An American Tragedy, the classic 1925 novel by Theodore Dreiser, based on the 1907 Gillette-Brown Adirondack murder case, was the basis for the 1951 film A Place in the Sun, starring Montgomery Clift and Elizabeth Taylor.


Members are encouraged to read the selected book in advance and then meet on the last Thursday of the month at the Hamilton Theater to view the film based on that book. Club members have the opportunity to discuss the book and the movie at a dinner in the Colgate Bookstore immediately following the film screening.
